What I did to contribute to Media Arts was to create a documentary with my group about Food Justice in City Heights. The things that I contributed for the film include the trailer, the poster, and the students I interviewed last week at Hoover High School and Crawford High School. How we got to pick our topic, Food Justice, is that we decided on what topic to pick, and when we picked our topic, we had to research it more often, and find out why it's happening in nearby places, such as City Heights, which is our main focused place. I think that it is important to make a documentary about Food Justice because of how people from different cultures couldn't be able to eat any food that represents meat or any food type, and probably some are being forced to eat it as well. Mostly they don't have access to healthy food based on their culture or race. On Friday, we're showing our documentary to the community which will help make this issue more exposed.

Something that interested me was finding clips from a movie that I got to choose from during the first week of internship. It was very fun to do, because my mentor, Alex wanted us to do that, and tell why it interests us a lot. And like first week’s blog post, I chose 4 clips from “The Revenant”, which interested me a lot. I didn’t remember the other movies that my other students chose, except for one by Walter, who chose a clip from “Scott Pilgrim Vs. The World”. Despite all that, this was the first day of my internship. That day stuck out to me the most, with me and other students picking what stuff we want to do or show other people. I enjoyed picking out stuff because it’s very fun to do, even if I didn’t have any ideas for what to choose. And I really enjoy seeing other people’s works because sometimes they could lead me to thinking up ideas like how they did for their work. The purpose of the whole idea was to explain why it was interesting, what you liked about it, including the work, the style, etc. What I enjoy about films is that when a director makes a movie his/her style, it motivates the tone of the film, making people like me want to see the film. Watching films could make me influence films, based on their tone of film, and maybe get some inspiration from the films that I watch.
There´s no pictures I took for the last days of this week, but I´ll try to take some tomorrow. But right now, here is my post. Yesterday, Mr. Aurmon, Mr. I, and a few other teachers from HTMCV came to visit my internship place and the place where I work, then we explained what short documentary project we are working on, and instead of gun violence, we focused more on Food Justice, and I´m still researching it. How I would describe my mentor, Alex, is that she was patient and she good at explaining things, and even if they were hard to explain, she would explain it easier. Natalia Valerdi-Rodgers, on the other hand, is similar to Alex in my opinion. What I could do from them to become a better student is to explain things more, because I want to make it easy for me to explain like how others explain to me. Here’s my Mentor, Alex (left) & Natalia (Right) creating a checklist for the equipment we have for our short documentary film.
I just got started at 8:55 AM at Media Arts Center and it got off to a pretty good start. In fact, It started out like no other. We had the chance to choose clips from movies that interest us, then we sent them to our mentor, that way she could show us the clips that interest us. After watching the clips, we had to explain why it interests us, and I chose some clips from a movie called ¨The Revenant¨, Even though I haven't watched the movie yet. The people at Media Arts Center were very nice, especially my mentor, Alexandra Wesser (goes by Alex). What I learned at the workplace was how to use the camera, and other parts of the camera as well, including the microphone. Where I worked was a computer lab, including a secret room which holds camera props and more. We always work in here, use the computers in there, and work with each other to think up ideas. There was also a Cinema there, where they showcase some movies, some may be popular, some may not be. Sometimes, when my mentor isn't here, we would think up more ideas for the short documentary film that we´re going to create, and research them as well. One of the ideas that I came up with was gun violence in City Heights, but I have to research that more often, and find an organization to partner up with. I´m feeling like I´m learning a lot this week, and I can't wait for what's going to happen next week. This was the Hoover High School, Where we got to listen to students from around the world share out where they come from, or what their race is.
